Well that wasn't the first thing that came to my mind, the first solution I implemented you can see in this same screen, are badly damaged walls. They just take one shoot to disrupt and make the slog of digging in subsequent playthrough less painful.
While I was tweaking this different version of the destructibles walls the distructive fantasies approached me with a booming voice.
